There are a number of options for people who are interested in living and working in Canada. Some of these options depend on your age, work experience, education or where you currently live. Everyone must formally apply to the Government of Canada for permission to work in Canada.
Some of the most popular programs that allow you to work in Canada include:
- Immigrating to Canada - for people interested in moving to Canada permanently
- International Experience Canada - for young people interested in traveling and working in Canada. Your country of citizenship must have a formal agreement with Canada that allows you to apply for an IEC work permit.
- NAFTA Work Permit - under the North-American Free Trade Agreement, certain professionals from the US and Mexico can work in Canada
- Post Graduate Work Permit - for international students who want to work temporarily in Canada after they graduate
- Temporary Foreign Worker
To apply for any of these work permit and visa programs, visit the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada work permits page. For an extensive list of questions and answers related to working in Canada, visit the Work Permits Help Centre page on the IRCC website.
